Belly dance workshops in London with The Arab Quarter - 25th July 2009
Newly launched, The Arab Quarter, stands for excellence in the fields of CDs, Workshops and Performance. It is an enormously exciting venture without comparison and with a long journey ahead.
The Arab Quarter is pleased to present its first London Oriental Dance Workshop with live music from world class composer, Chalf Hassan, and sophisticated dance from unique dance artist, Melanie Norman.
Chalf Hassan is a renowned composer in the Arab world with many CDs to his name, and a highly respected multi-instrumentalist, percussionist and singer. Melanie Norman brings individual artistry to her dance with exceptional grace, elegance and sensitive expression.
Hassan will sing for you and play oud, tabla and keyboard during this unique workshop. Melanie will be presenting carefully prepared material in four contrasting sessions:
Technique: steps, strong and fluid hips Relaxing into taqsim with beautiful hands and graceful arms Stylish and flamboyant Cairene combinations Feeling the joy of movement whilst improvising to a song. The emphasis will be on support and encouragement in a friendly and yet highly focussed atmosphere.
