Hawaii Belly Dance Convention

What better location to experience and participate in belly dance than in the Hawaiian Islands right? The Hawaii Belly dance Convention is one of my favorite annual events and I’ll explain more about it below.
Introduction to the Hawaiian Belly Dance Festival
- When: October annually
- Where: Honolulu, Hawaii
The Hawaiian convention is now over 15 years old and what a fantastic location in the world for meeting up with belly dancers from around the world.
You have the opportunity of joining in workshops with teachers from as far afield as Egypt, Morocco, Germany, Australia, and several other countries.
Combining a trip to this convention with a holiday in Hawaii makes this a favorite show for many, including myself.
This is an annual event which takes place in October each year and runs for 5 days and starts with what the organizers like to call a ‘Shimmy Showcase’.
The showcase, which takes place in the Doris Duke Theatre, normally includes all of the teachers whose workshops and classes you can attend during the convention.
The showcase acts as a great start to the event and one which also gives you the chance to gain a great understanding of the styles of dance and levels and styles of each teacher.
Throughout the 5 days there is a wide range of activities that also take place, one of which is a mini afternoon cruise from Waikiki Beach.
Ticketing Options
There is usually a package called the ‘All-in Option’ and this usually includes access to everything ie all classes and the mini cruise.
I recommend though making sure that you book your place on the cruise and whilst not a cheap option, it is reasonable value I feel, especially considering that it usually works out at less than $100 a day.

Where to stay in Honolulu
Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort
(2169 Kalia Road)
The Outrigger is a lovely 4 star hotel with a great location in the heart of Waikiki Beach.
It comes with free WiFi and facilities include a well -equipped gym and spa center.
Close to the bars, shops and overall, a great place to stay. You cannot go too far wrong with the Outrigger Reef.
(2426 Kuhio Avenue)
A 3-star option which is usually a bit cheaper than some of the other hotels, but which is equally as impressive and popular.
Within a leisurely 5 minutes walk from Waikiki Beach and close to everything you will need such as shops, restaurants, and bus stop. Wi-Fi is included.
Ohana Waikiki Malia
(2211 Kuhio Avenue)
A little further away from the beach in a quieter area but still in a great location and a wonderful hotel and one I have stayed in twice, is the Ohana Waikiki.
This 3-star hotel is a fair bit cheaper than those directly on the beachfront and it is very close to the Ala Moana shopping center.
For the cost I think this is an excellent choice.
